Job Interview

The job interview is both an exciting and frightening part of the job search process. Yet it is a crucial step to master if you want to be selected for the position.

So, you’ve passed the company’s initial qualifications on the employment application, and you've dazzled them with a great cover letter, and an effective resume.

Now they'd like to learn a little more about you in a face-to-face meeting.

The recruiter has likely selected several applicants to consider further, and will be comparing you with others on a variety of points to determine who will be the best fit.

Depending on the company's policies, you may go straight to a face-to-face meeting, or you may first go through several screening interviews, such as telephone interviews, or possibly a group meeting.

The better prepared you are for the varying types of meetings, the greater your chance of success at landing the job.

Although there are many ways of evaluative candidates, the main purpose of the interviewing process is to see what you are like "in person."

The employer will want to know whether you "look" as good in person as you do on paper. They will also be evaluating your overall personality for a good fit.

You will likely be evaluated on several points, including a closer review of the information you presented on your resume. The employer will want to verify information about your skills, ability, and knowledge. Close attention will also be paid to your interest level, your job interview confidence, your interpersonal skills, and your overall ability to communicate.

Although this big event can be intimidating, you can diminish many of your fears and increase your self-confidence by effectively preparing for the meeting.
